Beard Dye FAQ

The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye is a cosmetic powder colourant for beards, moustaches and facial hair. Results can vary depending on your natural beard colour, grey coverage, beard texture, application time and aftercare.

How long does The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye last?

Colour results typically last around 14 to 28 days.

This can vary depending on beard growth, how often you wash your beard, your natural hair type and the products you use after application.

Is The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye safe to use?

The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye is intended for external use only and should be used only as directed.

Our beard dye is formulated without PPD or ammonia and uses botanical powder ingredients such as henna and indigo. However, as with any cosmetic product, individual reactions can occur.

Always carry out a patch test 48 hours before use. Do not use on eyelashes. Avoid contact with eyes. If the product gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water.

Can I use it on my moustache?

Yes. The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye can be used on beards, moustaches and facial hair.

Apply carefully around the mouth area and avoid contact with the lips, inside of the mouth, eyes, nostrils or broken skin.

How many applications are in a 100g pouch?

A 100g pouch usually provides around 2 to 4 applications.

The number of applications depends on beard length, beard thickness, how much product is mixed and whether you are colouring a full beard, goatee, moustache or shorter facial hair.

Can I mix different shades?

Yes, shades can be mixed to help adjust the colour result.

If you are new to beard colouring, we recommend starting with the shade closest to your natural beard colour. For a darker result, it is usually better to build colour gradually rather than applying too dark a shade on the first use.

How do I apply The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye?

Mix the powder with warm water according to the instructions provided with your product.

Apply to a clean, slightly damp beard and leave on for the recommended time. Rinse thoroughly with warm water only.

Always read the full instructions before use and carry out a patch test 48 hours before applying the product to your beard.

Can I use it if I have sensitive skin?

If you have sensitive or reactive skin, take extra care before using any cosmetic colour product.

The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye is formulated without PPD or ammonia, but this does not guarantee that it will suit every skin type. Botanical ingredients can still cause irritation or allergic reactions in some people.

Always complete a patch test 48 hours before use. Do not apply to irritated, broken or inflamed skin. If irritation, itching, burning or discomfort occurs, rinse thoroughly and discontinue use.

How often should I colour my beard?

Most customers colour their beard every 2 to 4 weeks.

This depends on beard growth, grey regrowth, preferred colour depth and how quickly the colour fades on your beard.

Does it work on grey or white beard hair?

Yes, The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye can be used on grey and white beard hair.

Grey, white or coarse beard hair can be more resistant to colour. In some cases, more than one application may be needed to achieve a deeper or more even result.

For best results, follow the instructions carefully and allow the colour to develop fully over the following 24 to 48 hours.

Does it contain PPD or ammonia?

No. The Bohemian King’s Beard Dye is formulated without PPD or ammonia.

It is a powder-based cosmetic beard colour made with botanical ingredients including henna and indigo.

How long does the colour take to develop?

The colour begins developing during application and may continue to deepen over 24 to 48 hours after rinsing.

This is normal with henna and indigo-based colour products. For best results, avoid shampooing the beard for 24 hours after use and avoid beard oils for 24 to 36 hours after colouring.

What are the key ingredients?

The formula includes botanical powders such as henna, indigo, amla, bhringraj and neem.

Henna and indigo contribute to the colour result. The exact ingredient list may vary by shade, so always check the product packaging for the full INCI ingredient list before use.

What if my beard turns purple, green or an unexpected tone?

With indigo-based colour products, the colour can sometimes look unusual during the early development stage. This may happen while the colour is oxidising and settling.

The final result can continue to change over 24 to 48 hours.

To support a more even colour result, follow the application instructions carefully. For Midnight Black, use the included Beard Dye Base Gloss Edition as directed. For other shades, use the Beard Dye Colour Base where supplied or recommended.

If the colour result is not as expected, avoid immediately over-applying product. Allow the colour to settle first, then reassess after 24 to 48 hours.

Can I shampoo my beard after colouring?

Avoid shampooing your beard for the first 24 hours after colouring.

Rinse with warm water only after application. Avoid beard oils for 24 to 36 hours after use, as oils can affect how the colour develops and settles.

Can I use it on stubble?

For best results, we recommend using beard dye on facial hair that is at least 1cm in length.

Very short stubble may not hold colour as evenly as longer beard hair, and results may be less noticeable.

What should I do if irritation occurs?

Rinse the product off thoroughly with clean water and stop using it.

Do not reapply to irritated or broken skin. If symptoms persist or you are concerned about a reaction, seek medical advice.
